Checklist of birds of the Indian Subcontinent v.9.0

The ‘Indian Subcontinent Checklist’ is a definitive checklist of the birds of the Indian subcontinent, which have been reliably recorded till date from within the political boundaries of India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives. We follow eBird/Clements as the base for our Checklist taxonomy including its taxonomic sequence and nomenclature. We have also adopted eBird/Clements for the style of English names with respect to hyphenation and capitalization of compound-names and other typological matters.
Alternative Names, wherever necessary, have also been provided for most bird species for the purpose of cross-referencing. Only names that are in widespread use in regional literature, and other popular world lists, are given here as Alternative Names. English names in Alternative Names column are devoid of any specific style with respect to compound-name hyphens or capitalizations. However, we endorse only the primary English names given in the India Checklist. Species, whose global distribution range is restricted to within the political boundaries of its constituent seven countries, are marked as endemic.
The total number of bird species for the Indian Subcontinent now stands at 1,450. For more details, please refer to:
