Threatened birds of India v.8.0 [Uploaded on 20 December 2024.]

The ‘India Checklist’ is a definitive checklist of the birds of India, which have been reliably recorded from within the political boundaries of the Republic of India till date. We follow eBird/Clements as the base for our Checklist taxonomy including its taxonomic sequence and nomenclature. We have also adopted eBird/Clements for the style of English names with respect to hyphenation and capitalization of compound-names and other typological matters.
Alternative Names, wherever necessary, have also been provided for most bird species for the purpose of cross-referencing. Only names that are in widespread use in regional literature, and other popular world lists, are given here as Alternative Names. English names in Alternative Names column are devoid of any specific style with respect to compound-name hyphens or capitalizations. However, we endorse only the primary English names given in the India Checklist.
The Checklist additionally provides several other metadata for each species. These are Vagrant (recorded < 10 years since 1 January 2000 with moving base-year), Historical (records earlier than 1 January 2000), IUCN threat categories, Wild Life (Protection) Amendment Act of India (WLPA) 2022 Schedules, Appendices of CITES and CMS, and their resident endemic status vis-a-vis India, ten Endemic Bird Areas (EBAs) and Secondary Areas (SA).
The IUCN list of threatened species is also provided as an independent file, following the taxonomy followed by the IUCN.
In summary, there are 1,210 regularly occurring species in India with 134 vagrants and 29 historical species in addition. For more details, please refer to:
